BCSN MEN/WOMEN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - JANUARY 12, 2021

No!  This is not a misprint!!!  The BCSN Women's Players of the Week from January 5 were not just simply cut and pasted to the January 12 selection.  The two women had another week of outstanding performances to repeat the honor with the Black College Sports Network.  The Men's nominees were highlighted by a triple-double and a 30-point double-double.

Large Schools

Men

Shaun Doss, Jr. , a red-shirt junior guard from Marion, Arkansas, led the University of Arkansas at Pine-Bluff to a victory in their only game this week.  In the 91-82 victory versus Alabama State on Saturday, January 9, Doss led the Golden Lions with a 30 point double-double.  In 38 minutes of action, Doss tallied 31 points and 10 rebounds.  In addition, he contributed 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

Women

Ameshya Williams , a senior center from Gulfport, MS, had her fourth and fifth double-doubles, of eight games played this season, during the week.  Williams opened the week against Alabama State with a 25 point, 23 rebound, 7 block performance against the Lady Hornets on Monday.  Despite her efforts, Jackson State came up short versus Alabama State 72-70.  On Saturday, in a game where Jackson State held Alcorn State to single digits in scoring during three of the four quarters played, Williams led the way with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks.  This is Williams second consecutive BCSN Player of the Week honor.

Small Schools

Men

Trey Petty , a senior from Huntsville, AL helped the Stillman Tigers get off to a fast start to their season. Coming out of only nine days of organized practice before the 2020-2021 season opener, Trey Petty paced Stillman College to a 3-0 start to the season with 26.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists through three games. With a limited bench of players, Petty posted his first collegiate triple-double in the season opener Jan. 5 at Rust College with 38 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists on 55% shooting. He shot 42% and added 18 points in the Southern States opener against William Carey on Friday without a trip to the free throw line, before posting 24 points and 9 rebounds on 50% shooting Saturday.  The triple-double by Petty is the first one in HBCU basketball this season.  (Portions of information for Petty courtesy of Stillman College Sports Information Department.)

Women

Keaynna Tolbert , a junior guard from Orlando, FL, led the BCSN #2 Small Schools ranked Florida Memorial Lions to two victories at home this week.  The wins were the first two at home for the Lady Lions on the season.  Versus Sun Conference opponent, Thomas University, Tolbert had 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in only 22 minutes of action.  In another conference match-up, this time against the College of Coastal Georgia, Tolbert led Florida Memorial to victory with 35 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 37 minutes of action.  This is Tolbert's second consecutive BCSN Small Schools Player of the Week honor.
