BCSN WOMEN'S HBCU RANKINGS/PLAYERS OF THE WEEK 12/22/2020

As the NCAA Division I teams that are able to play non-conference basketball this season continue to get games in, our two NCAA Division II HBCU basketball conferences have decided to cancel (CIAA) and delay until March (SIAC) their basketball seasons, due to COVID-19 concerns. With just a handful of NCAA Division II teams not in a traditional HBCU conference, the Black College Sports Network has decided to combine the remaining NCAA Division II teams with the NAIA teams that will field a team this season into one ranking. Teams in the MEAC, SWAC, Hampton, and Tennessee State will be included in a separate ranking. Our ranking will now be classified as LARGE SCHOOLS (NCAA Division I) and SMALL SCHOOLS (NCAA Division II and NAIA) for both men and women for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. Our Players of the Week will also be classified in the same manner. The BCSN will continue to release its players of the week on a weekly basis. The next ranking will be released on January 5. Beginning January 19, rankings will be released on a weekly basis until the end of the regular season.

Players of the Week

Large Schools:  Zakiya Mahoney - Mississippi Valley State

Mahoney led the Delta Devils to a 2-0 record on the week, while scoring two double-doubles.  In a closely fought victory over Louisiana-Monroe, Mahoney poured in 17 points with 10 rebounds.  She went a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line, while adding 2 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals.  In Mississippi Valley's victory over Northwestern State, Mahoney followed up her performance with a 16 point, 13 rebound effort, while adding an assist and a steal.

Small Schools:  Bryanna Brown - Lincoln (PA)

Two days after the announcement that their season would come to an end, due to the CIAA cancelling basketball because of COVID-19 concerns, the Lady Lions from Lincoln University took the floor against Delaware State Lady Hornets.  As Lincoln controlled the game from the tip, Brown scored 18 points, pulled down 9 rebounds, and added 2 assists in the 72-55 victory.
