A.D. Drew, Black College Sports Network

On the Sunday night edition of the BCSN SportsWrap, with Bryan Fulford and A.D. Drew, the Black College Sports Network released its 2nd football Top 5 ranking of the 2022 Black College Football Season.  In their Division I ranking, the Southwestern Athletic Conference continues dominate the Top 5, claiming four of the five spots, and both of the "in the hunt" positions.  Jackson State still sits at the top of the rankings, following their bye week.  North Carolina Central, despite a loss, still sits at #2.  Alcorn State, Prairie View, and Florida A&M switched positions, but still sit in the Top 5.  In the Non-Division I ranking, three of the five ranked teams are undefeated, with previously undefeated, Fort Valley State, dropping to the "in the hunt" category, being replaced by undefeated Langston.  Virginia Union, Benedict, Albany State, Virginia State, and Langston sit atop this division.

Division I Power Rankings

An undefeated Jackson State took the week off and heads to Montgomery, AL to take on Alabama State for ASU's homecoming, in what is expected to be a record crowd in attendance.  The North Carolina Central Eagles lost their first game of the season to Campbell but was able to maintain their lead over the Alcorn State Braves.  Alcorn State also had a bye week and were able to move up in the rankings, while sitting at home, due to the strength-of-schedule calculation.  Florida A&M edged out Prairie View A&M for the fourth position because of their season strength-of-schedule, despite Prairie View A&M playing a tougher opponent, Alabama State, this past Saturday than FAMU played in Mississippi Valley State.

Non-Division I

Virginia Union scored 69 points in a route of CIAA South opponent, St. Augustine, and lead NCAA Division II in points-per-game.  The Panthers, not only sit atop of the BCSN poll, but are one of the top teams in Super Region 2.  Benedict moved from #5 to #2 after a resounding victory, 45-13, over previously #4 Fort Valley State on FVSU's homecoming.    Albany State got back on track with a solid victory over Miles.  Virginia State held to to win against previously "in the hunt" Shaw, 28-24.  Langston continues to dominate the NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conference.  The toughest portion of the Lions schedule is ahead of them, but Langston has taken care of business against the opponents that they were supposed to, thus far.

About the Ranking

The BCSN Computer Power Rankings is an algorithm, created by the Black College Sports Network, that assigns value to each teams' record, strength of schedule, road or neutral site victories, and power rating.  The Computer Power Rankings are released after four weeks of play so that enough data may be collected.  The Black College Sports Network released its first Computer Power Rankings in 2018.
